Henry L. Fuqua Sr. served as general manager of the Louisiana State Penitentiary (1916-1923) and governor of Louisiana (1924-1926). Henry L. Fuqua, Jr. was the son of Henry L. Fuqua, Sr. (1865-1926) and Laura Matta Fuqua (1866-1968). He attended the University Demonstration School in Baton Rouge, graduating in 1924, and attended LSU 1925-1927. He served in the Pacific theater in World War II and returned to Baton Rouge in 1947.
